A band of rain will move eastwards across the UK during Thursday, bringing with it wintry showers and slushy snow. During this six hour period into Friday morning, forecasters are concerned that travel will be impacted and the roads may be impacted. A Met Office spokesman said: "Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services."Forecasters also warned of some brief power outages being possible due to a risk from isolated lightning strikes. Met Office spokesperson Grahame Madge explained that thundersnow happens when the snow is such a contrast in temperature to the ground around it. He said: "As conditions get cold tonight, we're seeing temperatures drop down to freezing quite widely. "[Warm air] starts to rise very quickly up through the cold air and that's what creates the potential for thunderstorms."
