The UK weather has started February with a mix of conditions. While most regions enjoy dry spells and sunshine, heavy rain warnings remain in place for parts of south-west Scotland. Colder temperatures and the potential for wintry hazards like snow and ice are predicted for the weekend and next week.
The UK's weather has seen a mixed start to February, but a Met Office yellow weather warning for heavy rain remains in place for south-west Scotland in Dumfries and Galloway. The warning, which has been in effect since 9pm on Monday and is set to expire at 1pm today, could lead to some flooding and travel disruption on Tuesday. \According to the latest weather maps, a band of rain continues to sweep east across the UK this morning.
Greater Manchester has a chance of seeing rain increase as we head towards noon until around 2pm. For the rest of England and Wales, the Met Office predicts mostly dry conditions and some sunny spells once the low cloud and fog has cleared. Tonight will see the cloud and patchy rain clearing southeast England, resulting in dry and clear periods for most. However, the Met Office warns blustery showers will affect some northern areas, turning wintry on the hills. \Looking ahead to Wednesday, a dry and bright day is forecast for most with periods of winter sunshine. However, isolated showers are possible in the north and west, turning wintry over northern hills at first. By Wednesday, the Met Office says it will start to feel colder. Looking ahead, Frank Saunders, the Met Office Chief Meteorologist, says: 'It’s worth being aware that despite a largely pleasant week ahead, there’s a good chance the UK will experience a dip in temperatures at the weekend and into next week. High-pressure is set to move in, bringing along with it easterly winds, low temperatures and an increasing risk of wintry hazards like snow and ice. We’ll know more as the week goes on so it’s worth keeping up-to-date with the forecast in your area.
