A report has found that people who claim from the DWP and save into pensions could be owed cash
Thousands of Universal Credit recipients might be in for a financial uplift after a pension blunder by the Department for Work and Pensions was highlighted in a report. This is Money revealed on Wednesday that individuals who contribute to pensions while claiming from the DWP could see an increase in their benefits. It also suggested that claimants would be entitled to backdated payments.
A DWP spokesperson has addressed the issue with This is Money , stating: 'We have apologised to these claimants and are working with them to ensure their future Universal Credit entitlement is correct.' The Department for Work and Pensions has confirmed that pension contributions should indeed be deducted before calculating the Universal Credit amount, but claimants need to provide proof of their pension contributions.
