Motorists have been experiencing significant delays on Sunday morning on a key route due to an unexpected issue. A stretch of the A42 southbound has been closed off, with two lanes out of action for urgent roadworks.
The disruption is situated between junction 14 for Tonge and extends towards East Midlands Airport, having started at 8am. National Highways has indicated that the closure is necessary for "emergency litter clearance". National Highways' traffic officers and contractors are currently handling the situation on-site. To manage the impact, a diversion has been established, with expectations that the closure could persist for a number of hours.
Drivers affected by the closure are being directed to follow a diversion marked by a solid diamond symbol, reports Leicestershire Live.Those intending to travel along this section of the A42 today should plan for additional travel time or consider using different routes if possible. The road was scheduled to reopen at around 1pm.
