Miami's Hard Rock Stadium ready to host Copa America final
DAVID MUNDEE Former Dothan High standout Chase Allsup called the moment a dream come true, a relief, and exciting yet also hard to believe.
He was the second Wiregrass player in two days to be taken in the first four rounds of this year’s draft. On Sunday, former Headland standout and current Vanderbilt junior pitcher Bryce Cunningham was taken by the New York Yankees in the second round. Shortly after the call, he saw his name listed as Baltimore’s pick on the MLB Network TV coverage of the draft. He immediately celebrated with family members.
Allsup said he was excited about the possibility of playing for the Orioles, considered one of the rising programs in major league baseball with young talent. Allsup said Baltimore was one of seven teams he met with during the MLB Combine on June 18-23 at Chase Field in Arizona. The Dothan native only participated in the medical exams and meetings part of the combine and did not participate in any baseball drills or tests.
