Australian Lawyers for Remote Aboriginal Rights Dan Kelly says the Santa Teresa community has won its right to sue the Northern Territory government for providing substandard housing.
Mr Kelly claims several residents had housing with no doors, no air conditioning “in the middle of the desert”, overflowing sewage and “uranium in their drinking water”.
“The next step in our legal proceedings is we will go back to the Northern Territory Court of Appeal and we will have an argument about the amount of compensation that should be paid.“Our clients really see better housing and compensation as their only tool through which they can hold the government to account.”
