Zhanna Samsonova, originally from Russia, had tens of thousands of followers on TikTok and Instagram where she detailed the benefits of a raw vegan diet
But Ms Samsonova said she believed her daughter’s condition could have been exacerbated by exhaustion from her extreme raw vegan diet.“She did not listen to her mother, an adult, she decided for herself,” she said, pleading for people not to write “nasty things” about her daughter.
Her daughter was due to fly home to Kazan, Russia’s fifth largest city, on the day she died. Her family are now trying to have her body repatriated. A friend of the food blogger told Russian media outlet 116.ru that Ms Samsonova’s “starvation was causing her to melt before our eyes, but she believed everything was fine”.
The social media influencer had been travelling in Asia for 17 years and blogging about the virtues of a raw“I see my body and mind transform every day,” she wrote. “I love my new me, and never move on to the habits that I used to use.”
