The iconic DJ is set to hang up the mic tomorrow (Friday, December 20) after six years presenting the network's breakfast programme. At the end of her slot and the start of Vernon's this morning, Zoe, 54, said: 'This is actually our last handover talking to each other.' This prompted Vernon to launch an emotional farewell to his long-time colleague.
The presenter, 50, said: 'Well I'm going to say my bit now. Listen, all I'm going to say is thank you. Not only for being an on-air pal. But also for being someone who is absolutely awesome. An absolute rock. 'Prior to me joining Radio 2 we've had many many conversations and you've been an absolute superstar. When I joined Radio 2 you were there holding my hand, guiding me along and telling we what's right, this that and the other. 'How to conduct yourself and all that kind of stuff. But it's the off air conversations we've had that have meant more than anything else. So Zoe, thank you. You're a special, special person and you're going to be blooming missed.' Zoe announced last month that she was stepping down after six years at the Radio 2 Breakfast Show helm. She will be replaced by Scott Mills. She said in a statement: 'After six incredible years on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, it's time for me to step away from the very early mornings and focus on family.' Zoe will remain on the station and said more news on what that will involve will be announced in the new year. She started presenting on BBC Radio back in 1997 as she became co-host of the Radio 1 Breakfast Show. At the time her party lifestyle saw her linked to the 'ladette culture' of the late 1990s. In more recent years she has revealed a painful health condition she has been battling.
