Vernon Kay, the Radio 2 host, admitted to mispronouncing a Scottish place name during his weather report and jokingly claimed he received a reprimand for the mistake.
Vernon Kay revealed he received a 'ticking off' after making an on-air blunder during his Radio 2 show. The 50-year-old was presenting the weather at the start of this morning’s edition when he revealed he accidentally mispronounced a place name on Tuesday (December 17). It prompted Vernon to 'hope' he said the locations correctly. He said: 'Today’s top temperature could be 14 in Seething - they’re right proper angry in Seething, in Norwich - and a low of six in Skail in Kinbrace.
I hope I said that right because yesterday I got a right ticking off for saying a Scottish place wrong. What are you going to do?’ Former model and television presenter Vernon has been a popular host on Radio 2 since joining in 2021 as cover for Rylan Clark. It led the BBC to appoint Vernon as a regular stand-in for Steve Wright’s afternoon slot. However, last year Vernon was announced as the replacement for the departing Ken Bruce on the mid-morning slot. The move saw Ken leaving the BBC after 37 years. It is not Vernon’s first stint behind the microphone at the BBC however, as the dad-of-two presented on Radio One between 2004 and 2012. After leaving the broadcaster, he had a brief stint on the newly-launched Radio X. Vernon, who was well known for presenting Family Fortunes on ITV, said it was a 'dream come true' to take over the Radio 2 show. 'And what an honour to follow in the footsteps of the mighty Ken Bruce,' he added in a statement. 'I'm absolutely over the moon to be handed the microphone.' With Vernon, who is married to Strictly Come Dancing’s Tess Daly, at the helm of the show, it has continued to be the UK’s biggest radio show. It saw an increase in the number of listeners in the third quarter of the year, with around 6.8 million people regularly tuning in
