Alexandra Breckenridge, best known for her role in the hit Netflix series Virgin River, revealed she drew upon a deeply personal experience of nearly losing a child to deliver a powerful performance in a recent episode. The actress shared her story, explaining how the emotional weight of the scene, where her character Mel and her fiancé Jack face the devastating loss of their baby, resonated with her own past struggles.
Virgin River star Alexandra Breckenridge recently opened up about a deeply personal experience that profoundly influenced her portrayal of a traumatic storyline in the hit Netflix series. Breckenridge, known for her role as Mel Monroe, revealed that she drew upon her own family's heartbreaking experience when filming a scene in season five where her character, Mel, and her on-screen fiancé Jack (played by Martin Henderson), face the devastating loss of their baby through miscarriage.
The actress explained to Deadline that she could relate to the emotional depth of the scene because she had personally experienced the fear of losing a child. Breckenridge shared that one of her children had been critically ill when they were young, and the experience left an indelible mark on her. Describing her approach to the scene, Breckenridge stated, 'I think it was just human instinct and empathy. I've had personal experience. One of my children was very, very sick when he was young and could have died so I have a personal connection and understanding of the emotional loss of a child.' She continued, 'When you're a parent and you come so close to that edge of not having them anymore, I already experienced that in a different way, so I came into that scene reliving that experience. That's how I approached it, because that's what I know. And that was the most real to me, just let myself go back to that emotional point, and how that felt, and being there with it.'This marked the first time Breckenridge publicly discussed this deeply personal event. She shares two children, seven-year-old son Jack and five-year-old daughter Billie, with her husband, musician Casey Hooper. The couple met in 2012 and married in 2015 in a private ceremony in Colorado. Breckenridge expressed that filming the scene allowed her to channel those raw emotions, stating, 'Having to pick yourself up and do something which is also kind of weirdly within the circumstances of what I had to go through at the time. I haven't talked about that yet publicly, I will eventually. I didn't have to do a lot of quote-unquote, acting, so to speak. In that moment, it was all just very real to me.
