'We had to collect all the tools in wheelbarrows and then walk them round to the gardens'
A voluntary group that helps keep the borough clean is desperately trying to find a new van to help it carry out its work.
Pam Ormerod, the Gardens Officer, said: “We had to collect all the tools in wheelbarrows and then walk them round to the gardens. It was hard work and after a gardening session we had to walk them back, it would really impact on what we can achieve without a van.” In the summer it can take a volunteer up to three hours to water all of the hanging baskets, barrier baskets and gardens, sometimes in a dry spell, this can be required on a daily basis. It would take at least double this time and require more people without the van, putting an extra strain on the small group of volunteers.
