The Lenton business has submitted plans to knock down Nottingham City Council's old transport services depot
A new Warhammer figerine-making factory has taken an exciting step forward after Nottingham firm Games Workshop lodged further redevelopments plans for its headquarters. The Lenton business, which last year raised £494 million in revenue through its globally popular Warhammer 40,000 wargame, has submitted plans to knock down Nottingham City Council's old transport services depot ahead of the proposed construction of an extra figurine-making plant on the land.
More than 350 staff currently work at the site's three existing Willow Road factories to produce millions of the popular figures, with bosses hoping the planned fourth factory will be open by spring 2026. The company has notified the city council it wants to start demolishing the structure, which it had bought from the authority for £2.7 million in 2020, by the end of August this year.
Neil Coombe, who is group manufacturing operations manager at Games Workshop, said the building would be demolished "carefully" by a specialist contractor. The demolition would hopefully be finished by the end of November this year, Mr Coombe added. This proposed workshop that is touted to replace the rubbled depot would cost £9 million to complete according to the firm's recently filed financial results.
The application for the new facility is currently pending planning permission from Nottingham City Council. Previously the company's CEO Kevin Rountree, who has led the business since 2015, said the firm's three city factories had reached record-high levels of productivity last year by pumping out 40 million plastic parts for hobbyists to turn into painted soldiers and creatures.
Mr Rountree, writing in Games Workshop's end-of-year filings, said: "We are proud to manufacture our product in Nottingham which is the centre of expertise for our global business. It’s where we started and where we intend to stay."
