The England legend endured a miserable start to their season as Sheffield Wednesday ran riot, and things weren't much better off the pitch
The disastrous start for Wayne Rooney at Plymouth was compounded by a humiliating 4-0 defeat in his managerial debut - and was further marred by an embarrassing kit blunder.
Following an ignominious 83-day tenure at Birmingham City which lasted only 15 games, Rooney knows he has plenty to prove as a manager. His mission at Plymouth began unenviably; not only did his team display a shambolic performance, but also became the laughing stock online due to two players sporting incorrectly spelt names on their kits.
Rooney admitted that Plymouth's performance in their heavy defeat to Danny Rohl's outfit was a serious reality check. Rooney didn't mince his words after the game as he said: "I think it's a wake-up call to us all. Everything about the game today I didn't like. You can lose football games but you have to make sure you're running and tackling and getting to the ball. The basics of the game weren't good enough and that's not acceptable.
