Do you think Jake Berry's comments are fair?

The MP for Rossendale and Darwen Jake Berry has come under fire after saying people struggling with their bills should seek jobs with higher wages or cut consumption.

The Lancs MP, who is also the chairman of the Conservative Party, made the comments when he appeared on Sky News' Sophy Ridge on Sunday programme. He said: "People know when they get their bills, they can either cut their consumption or get higher salaries or higher wages, and go out there and get that new job. That’s the approach the government is taking in trying to create growth."

We want to hear if you think his comments are fair or if, as many have said since the interview aired, he is out of touch with reality. LancsLive will be discussing the topic with you in the comments section.Unison's general secretary Christina McAnea was among the people who came out in defense of struggling families. She said the government was "living on another planet".

She added: “If more key workers take the government’s advice, there’ll soon be no one left to run our hospitals, schools and care homes,” The Independent reported. Labour MP Diane Abbott branded the comment "heartless" in a tweet. What are your thoughts? Join the conversation with other LancsLive readers in our comments section here.
