Westend Fish and Chips in Oswaldtwistle has just been named one of the best in the UK. Again
It stands proud in the heart of Oswaldtwistle. A chippy that has achieved heights only few in the region have managed.
It has been a proud time for mother and daughter, Lesley and Deryn Regan, who own the chippy and have worked extremely hard to obtain the award. Owner Deryn explained: "My grandad loved chippies, he always had done. Wherever we used to go when I was a kid, he knew where the best chippies were. "Or if we went to Blackpool, or Lytham or wherever we went, he'd know where we're going. He'd have nicknames for them as well, so we only really know them by those names.
Even though the chippy has been accredited by the people who know chippies the best, it would be rather rude if we didn't try something from the menu for ourselves. The obvious choice might be to try the shop’s fish and chips, considering that’s the cornerstone of what chippies are all about. In the timeframe promised, I was handed over my order - along with lashings of salt and vinegar - and something added to my sustainable packaging. The sticker on the box states: “We hope you enjoy our homemade fish cakes” - a nice touch.
