Michael Waterloo takes a look back at the weird, wild and 'what the hell?' moments of the 2022 fantasy football season.
ByIt’s the week-to-week journey that makes football special. And while 18 regular season weeks doesn’t feel like a long time, a hell of a lot can happen during that stretch.
Readers of mine know that this is about the point in the lede where I find some kind of random pop culture tie-in and make it fit — sometimes it’s a square in a circle, but I do my best — the theme of the article. My mind went immediately to Saturday Night Live and the Keenan Thompson’s “What’s Up With That” long-running skit where he’s a game show host. But I’m going to swerve on you here.
And if you’re honest, it’s something that you’ve said to yourself each Sunday, and Monday, and Thursday . Being on Twitter during aSunday is fun, because you see the victory laps, the justification, but also the reactions to events that make you say, “What the hell’s going on out here?” With Week 1 action just a mere two weeks away, let’s take a look back at some of those moments from 2022 that made us ask, “What the hell’s going on out here?”“If you want a big hat, let me know.” Apparently Brian Robinson’s friend has a big hat company, and, well, Robinson showed it off in late November. Shockingly , the craze didn’t really take off, but I did go to an Atlantic League baseball game earlier this year, and the team used the big hat as a home run celebration. So there’s that.
