Sperrin rivals Derry and Tyrone have new football managers for 2025 while Monaghan have also new man on the sideline

The managerial comings and goings in Ulster are rarely dull and this autumn was no exception with a number of high-profile appointments in the province.

Gaelic football’s longest-serving manager is entering his 11th year in charge and is likely to be given the freedom to depart the role whenever he wants having guided the Orchard County to All-Ireland success over Galway in July.

Cavan - Raymond Galligan After stepping in to fill the void left by Mickey Graham’s departure, former Cavan goalkeeper Raymond Galligan proved himself more than worthy to wear the bainisteoir bib. Paddy Lynch was also close to a return to action for Crosserlough in the Ulster club series and the Breffnimen will fancy their chances of being as competitive as they were last year in Division Two.

Having been touted as All-Ireland contenders as recently as last April, the Oak Leafers will be keen to put their recent managerial upheaval behind them, but they’ll do so without their recently-retired former captain Chrissy McKaigue. Having played eventual All-Ireland champions Armagh three times in 2024, Donegal won twice and drew the earlier League game against Kieran McGeeney’s men.

After losing the final to Westmeath, Conor Laverty’s men were destined for the Tailteann Cup, but only after pushing Armagh all the way in a low-scoring Ulster semi-final. Fermanagh - Kieran Donnelly After some initial doubt as to whether or not he’d return as Fermanagh manager, Kieran Donnelly ended speculation by agreeing to a fourth year in charge of the Ernemen back in August. They suffered relegation from Division Two, despite gaining five points and their Ulster Championship finished with a heavy loss to Armagh in Brewster Park.

Monaghan - Gabriel Bannigan One county who didn’t expect to be on the lookout for a new manager at the end of the season were Monaghan, who were stunned by Vinny Corey’s departure after two years at the helm.
