The Premier League have been handed a defeat after Leicester City found its rules to be less than watertight
Of all the Premier League teams to have concerns around profit and sustainability rules , Manchester City have the least.
But City chiefs will have been watching keenly the successful appeal of Leicester City against the Premier League’s charges for alleged breaches of PSR for the 2022/23 period.READ MORE: I want to make my family proud at Man City - Pep Guardiola is helping That was successfully argued by Leicester’s legal team when they made their appeal, meaning the club won’t face a points deduction. And rather than appealing the Premier League are likely now to return to its rule book and make amendments to prevent similar situations occurring in the future.
The Premier League also claim City did not cooperate fully with the resulting investigation. Pep Guardiola's club have always firmly denied any wrongdoing and insist they have evidence that will prove their innocence. City have been unwavering in their stance rejecting the Premier League’s claims, the club claiming that they have “irrefutable evidence” that will clear them of any wrongdoing.
Back in 2019, City were handed a two-year ban from European competition by UEFA following an investigation into the club relating to inflating sponsorship deals. That was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport upon appeal due to some charges being time-barred and allegations being ‘unsubstantiated’.
