David Steinberg, partner and insolvency expert at law firm Stevens & Bolton, said the administrators’ immediate priority will be to try to sell as much of Wilko’s business as possible. Mr Steinberg said the future for staff was uncertain, but workers at stores that are not sold on will likely lose their jobs.

Tania Clench, legal director in the restructuring and insolvency team at law firm Cripps, said Wilko’s debt issues could mean employee’s lose out.
