It was all smiles in Leeds United 's director's box ahead of today's clash with Burnley as Will Ferrell attended his first match since becoming a minority shareholder in the Championship club. The Hollywood movie star, best known for his roles in Elf and Anchorman, was pictured pitch-side with chairman Paraag Marathe before kick-off at Elland Road and posed for pictures with the club's popular away shirt.
The 45-year-old is among a raft of celebrities and sports stars who have invested in the Whites as part of the 49ers Enterprises vehicle. More than a year has passed since the 49ers took over United in a £170m deal. Russell Crowe, another actor, has an interest in Leeds already, having 'considered' purchasing the team in 2015 before formally investing with 49ers too. Golf stars Jordan Speith and Justin Thomas are also minority investors.
United trailed 1-0 at half-time thanks to superb goal on the counter attack from Luca Koleosho. Spanish Under-21 international Mateo Joseph wasted the home side's best chance in the opening minute, firing wide after bursting through on goal.
