A Chinese woman has decided to quit her job to become a “full-time daughter” who gets paid P32,000 per month. , the woman named Nianan dealt with “heightened levels of stress and the constant pressure of being on-call 24 hours a day” after working for a news company for 15 years.
Following her experience with burnout, her parents didn’t hesitate to take care of her financially and provide her with a monthly allowance of 4,000 yuan from their monthly retirement pension of over 10,000 yuan as a"full-time daughter"—an offer that was too hard to resist. For Nianan, her current role is a “profession filled with love.” Her daily load changes every day, though it mostly consists of grocery shopping, making dinner, driving, organizing trips, and dancing with her parents for about an hour.
The “job” doesn’t feel like a job at all, confessed Nianan, adding that her “desire to earn more money” was the biggest factor in her decision to accept the offer. The “full-time daughter,” however, noted that her mom and dad never fail to reassure her that she can go for a “more suitable job” when she finds one. SCMP defined the “full-time daughter” concept as “an alternative for younger people in China who face an increasingly competitive job market and the grind of ‘996’—working from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. six days a week.
