Ellie Owens' face 'blew up like a balloon' after the vicious attack
A teacher says it has taken her months to recover after she was attacked while on holiday in Sri Lanka. Ellie Owens recalled being locked in a hotel room as her attacker pummelled her and she screamed for help. Last October the 24-year-old from Wavertree had travelled to Sri Lanka with a friend, who she met while teaching in Abu Dhabi, while there she reportedly suffered an attack that has left her with a “phobia of going outside.
She claims she had to be signed off sick from work for over a week while she recovered. However, it wasn’t the physical pain that affected Ellie the most, it was mentally. She says she has been unable to speak about the attack, which left her with a “phobia” of going outside, for the past 11 months. She said: “I felt embarrassed about what had happened. I lied to people and told them I had fallen, I didn't know what to do at the time, it all happened so quickly.
