The volcanic island of Santorini is one of the most photographed Greek islands, with its white washed houses and hilltop views of the azure waters that surround it a hit with holidaymakers
One of Greece's most photographed islands, renowned for its stunning beauty and spectacular sunsets, is facing business challenges, according to a local tour operator.
However, despite the high influx of visitors, businesses on the volcanic island of Santorini are reportedly struggling with under capacity. Local tour operator Gianluca Chimenti, who has lived on the island for 18 years, claims that while the streets are bustling during the day, they become eerily quiet at night.
However, the evenings paint a different picture. Once the sun sets and the visitors return to their ships to journey to their next destination, the island becomes significantly quieter. He claims that "the hotels right now are more or less under 30% of a normal season," and that other businesses, such as restaurants, are also feeling the pinch.
