There's been a sharp uptick in the number of people forced to live on the streets or in crisis accommodation, with Mission Australia releasing a damning report.

Mission Australia report finds a 26 per cent increase in demand for homelessness services over the last three years.The number of people sleeping rough in tents or improvised homes surged by 103 per cent from 2020 to 2022.

Soaring rents, a shortage of affordable housing and a slowing construction sector have resulted in demand for help to find somewhere to live jump to levels never seen before.The report used information gathered from 63 of the charity's homelessness and housing support services over three years. "Without a significant boost of social and affordable housing across the country, homelessness cannot be eradicated," Ms Callister said.
