With temperatures soaring to uncomfortable highs this week, counties across Central Pennsylvania are taking action to help residents beat the heat by opening co
oling centers.Since senior citizens are some of the most susceptible to the heat, the county has opened 14 senior centers to be used as cooling centers .
“Seniors can be affected by certain chronic conditions that they have, and if they don’t have air conditioning at home, it’s often important to go seek that air conditioning out,” said Mark Shea, director of the York County Aging Office.Seniors who call a day in advance can also receive a free meal during their visit.
“There’s a nice conference room, there’s a waiting room, we’ve got a café area where you can help yourself to some lunch. Basically, come and tell us what you need and we’ll be sure to help you out,” said Eric Saunders, executive director for New Hope Ministries.
