Heavy rainfall across Yorkshire has caused widespread flooding, leading to road closures, submerged vehicles, and evacuations. North Yorkshire is particularly hard hit.

Relentless heavy rain across Yorkshire has caused almost 100 flood warnings and 82 flood alerts on New Year's Day. There have been reports of cars being submerged, people trapped in floodwater and rivers overflowing. North Yorkshire is facing the brunt of the heavy rainfall with many roads impassable as rivers and becks swell leaving communities cut off until the water subsides. There are 98 flood warnings currently live and 82 flood alerts active in Yorkshire on January 1, 2025.

Fire crews saved people from rising floodwaters in Hawes at 5pm on New Year's Eve. North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: 'A crew from Hawes assisted 3 occupants and a dog from floodwater after their vehicle became stuck. Crews waded through the water in water rescue equipment to assist all occupants to dry land.' They said crews then assisted another vehicle with four people trapped inside 20 minutes later. Train services are also suspended on Transpennine Express between Manchester Piccadilly and Huddersfield due to flooding. Flooding is expected in South Yorkshire with 11 flood warnings and 19 flood alerts. West Yorkshire has 41 flood warnings and 24 flood alerts. East Yorkshire has 3 flood alerts. North Yorkshire has 46 flood warnings and 36 flood alerts
