Despite the rise of coffee, tea remains a cherished beverage in the UK. A recent survey by Lancashire Live revealed that Yorkshire Tea holds sway amongst Lancashire tea drinkers, even though the region boasts its own popular brand, Lancashire Tea. The survey showed that many Lancashire residents choose Yorkshire Tea for its quality and taste, regardless of its origins across the border.

While tea may no longer be the nation's favorite hot drink, millions of people in the UK still enjoy a cuppa every day. Last month, one of Britain's oldest tea companies, Typhoo Tea, faced financial difficulties due to declining sales, but it was recently rescued by vape maker Supreme in a £10 million deal. Meanwhile, PG Tips remains the best-selling brand in the UK, according to 2023 data, with Yorkshire Tea vying for the top spot.

Another contender, though perhaps less known to some, is Lancashire Tea. Lancashire Live recently took to the streets to discover people's preferred tea brands and found that the traditional Yorkshire-Lancashire rivalry didn't significantly influence their choices. Yorkshire Tea, grown in over 20 locations across Africa and India, is imported to Harrogate, North Yorkshire, where it has been blended since 1886. Despite its strong ties to the county bordering Lancashire, Yorkshire Tea remains a popular choice among tea drinkers in Lancashire. John, from Blackburn, is a traditional tea enthusiast who prefers loose leaf tea over tea bags. However, he always opts for Yorkshire Tea. 'It's not as if it's grown in Yorkshire, is it?' John remarked. 'I always buy it because it's the best.' Victor Perry, also from Blackburn, insists on using Yorkshire Tea for his daily brew. 'I usually get the Breakfast Tea,' he added. 'It doesn't bother me that it's from Yorkshire, why should it?' Chris Toon, from Accrington, drinks up to four cups of tea a day. 'I usually drink Typhoo,' he said, expressing relief that his preferred brand had been saved. 'It wouldn't bother me drinking Yorkshire Tea at all.' Marion Marshall, from Oswaldtwistle, considers both price and quality when selecting her tea. 'I've tried a few different ones. The one I get is from the Premier Shop and it's only £1.09. 'I don't drink Yorkshire Tea because it's dearer, but you've got to weigh the price up against the quality of the product.' In 2023, coffee surpassed tea as the UK's leading hot beverage, with 63 percent of Britons drinking it regularly compared to the 59 percent who choose tea. What's your favorite tea?
