Residents in the flood-hit Queensland community of Burketown have been warned to steer clear of crocodile-infested waters.

Air assets are stationed nearby and on standby for emergency rescues and transport of food, water and medical supplies, Senior Sergeant Adrian Rieck from the Mount Isa District Disaster Coordination Centre said. Conditions are still too dangerous for residents to return with authorities urging them to limit movement in the floodwater due to unseen hazards and recent crocodile sightings.
"Quite big numbers considering the shire population in Burketown, so a considerable amount of our citizens are now in neighbouring shires or towns and cities," he told ABC News Breakfast on Monday.Source:He said parts of the town had stayed relatively high and dry, but it would be some time before the full extent of the damage would be understood.
