A young teenage swimmer from Salford has broken one of the longest-standing British records in history.
14-year-old Amelie Blocksidge claimed a new fastest time for the girls’ 16 and under short course 1500m free swim, beating out the former record holder, Olympian Sarah Hardcastle, by almost 10 minutes.
“I wasn’t confident in what time I was going to do so I just had to go in and swim. They announced it when I finished my race with everyone there. It was good - I was really tired though!” “Her 800m was only 1.5 seconds outside the British record, it’s mad, she swam so good over the weekend.” She added that it’s sometimes difficult to keep up with her daughter’s swimming achievements.
