Aliyah Carter, 21, claims her life was 'turned upside down' after seeking medical care for her six-month-old Lilah who vomited throughout the night in July last year.
A mum claims her life was ‘turned upside down’ after taking her sick baby girl to hospital sparked a social services probe. Aliyah Carter sought medical care after her six-month-old Lilah was up throughout the night with vomiting in July last year.
“My daughter had been really sick all night and she hadn't slept at all so I called 111. They told me to come into the hospital to get her checked out. We went to the A&E department of Morriston Hospital where they checked her over before they sent her up to the paediatric department. As soon as she walked into the doctor's room Aliyah claimed she felt they had "made their mind up". She explained: "They told me she shouldn't have had a bruise like that because she's basically immobile. They were telling me about my own daughter. I told them she's not immobile. At the time she was nearly six months old.
Neath Port Talbot social services were also called with photographs taken of the baby’s body before Aliyah was separated from her daughter. While medical tests on Lilah came back clear, the alleged abuse probe continued. A second social worker then visited the mum. Following what Aliyah described as a deeply upsetting and stressful time, she said she needed time to recuperate with her daughter at home. She said her experience had left her extremely anxious about Lilah getting any minor bumps or marks on her skin and fears that she could be taken away from her.
In response, the health board apologised for how Aliyah felt, but stated that it would take no further action. A spokeswoman for the health board said: "We are sorry to hear of Ms Carter's concerns. The health board received a complaint from her last August. A thorough investigation was undertaken, and a detailed response sent to Ms Carter.
