Adam Chowdhary was said to have deleted material from his phone before it was seized
The youth who imported the knife used to kill Yousef Makki deleted 47 items from his own iPhone after the fatal stabbing, a new inquest into the death was told.
But he was handed a 16-month detention and training order after admitting possessing the knife which inflicted the fatal injury and perverting the course of justice by lying to police at the scene of the stabbing. John Mulvihill, the now retired senior investigating officer on the case, told the court that cops who arrived at the scene captured footage on body-worn cameras - this was a ‘standard’ process, he said.
He confirms his name and age to the officer. He said the friends had been ‘chilling’ that day and had been to Booths supermarket in Hale earlier. He denied there had been an argument and repeats that they were ‘chilling’. He is captured saying Molnar had lifted his t-shirt to reveal an injury. He refers to a VW Polo or a Corsa which had left the scene.
After the videos were played in court, Mr Mulvihill was asked about the 999 calls that were made at the time of the incident. A call was made to 999 from Mr Chowdhary’s phone and then later on Mr Makki’s phone, the court heard. Asked where the stabber went, Chowdhary was heard to answer : “I don’t know. He got off.” He said he ‘didn’t even clock it’ when asked in which direction the attacker had gone.
Pete Weatherby KC, for the Makki family, asked the witness whether in his experience there was ‘a far from innocent reason for someone deleting their call history’.
