Chinook salmon runs remain too small for harvest but chum salmon are forecasted to meet the minimum escapement goals.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - No chinooks, but chum salmon will be available for subsistence harvest in the Yukon River this year.

There will be an opportunity to harvest fish other than salmon using 4-inch or small mesh gillnets. If a chinook or chum salmon are caught in one of these nets, fishermen are to release any living salmon. In subdistrict 6-C, personal use fishing “ is open on a schedule of two 42-hour periods per week,” according to ADFG. The schedule for that involves two windows from 6 p.m. Monday to noon on Wednesday and the same times between Friday and Sunday. This will be closed once salmon arrive.
