Following a summer of unrest, Bolton Council has allocated £600,000 to address the aftermath of violent disorder in the town center. The funding will be used to enhance safety, combat misinformation, and support vulnerable communities.

Approximately £600,000 will be invested in recovery measures following violent disorder in Bolton town centre last summer. On August 4th, opposing groups clashed, separated by police outside Bolton town hall. Bolton council has outlined how £600,000 in 'community recovery funding' granted by the Ministry for Housing, Communities, & Local Government (MHCLG) will be spent. Bolton is one of 20 local authorities nationally identified by MHCLG as significantly affected by the public disorder.

Recommended interventions by the Bolton-based multi-agency recovery coordination group include £90,000 for enhanced CCTV in the town centre, £120,000 to address misinformation and disinformation, and £100,000 to support asylum and refugee placements in temporary accommodation. During the Bolton disorder, bricks and other missiles were thrown at police officers attempting to separate the groups. Several individuals have been convicted of offences related to the disorder. At a court hearing on August 6th, District Judge Joanne Hirst described the scenes as 'horrific violence', which included damaged police vehicles. A Bolton Council report presented to the cabinet member for stronger communities stated: 'The funds will provide immediate action to safeguard people and property, reduce the risk of further disorder in the future, rebuild social trust and promote cohesion between communities. 'The recovery coordination group has worked to understand the impact of the disorder and design a work programme for the use of this funding.'
