The Northern Ireland Civil Service is looking for a Head of Divergence Co-Ordination to manage regulatory differences between Northern Ireland and Great Britain due to the Windsor Framework.

The Northern Ireland Civil Service is currently recruiting for a new Head of Divergence Co-Ordination to oversee regulatory differences between Northern Ireland and Great Britain . The new role, which will be based on the Stormont Estate, comes with a salary of between £55,209 and £59,049.

In their job advert, the Civil Service have said that they would particularly welcome applications from Protestants, females, people under the age of 35, people with a disability and people from minority ethnic communities. Among the key responsibilities of the role will be coordinating the Civil Service's management of potential or material regulatory divergence between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK, stemming from compliance with the Windsor Framework. Other responsibilities include leading on the administration and maintenance of the Executive Office’s EU Law Information Tracking System, coordinating NICS engagement with the UK Government’s post-EU Exit Common Frameworks programme and with the UK Government on the Retained EU Law Act 2023 and its implementing legislation programme. Under the original Protocol, all goods exported from Great Britain to Northern Ireland were treated as if they could end up in the EU and were subject to customs declarations, paperwork and checks. The Windsor Framework and, subsequently, the Safeguarding the Union command paper which led to the return of the Assembly earlier this year, aimed to reduce this divergence. Commenting on the new role, North Antrim MP Jim Allister said that it was 'confirmation of the monumental constitutional damage inflicted by the Protocol'
