Uptick in violence as insurgents strike capital

Armed groups linked to Al-Qaida -affiliated JNIM have launched attacks in the Mali an capital of Bamako and four other cities in central and northern Mali . The Mali defence minister, Sadio Camara , was killed in his own residence, according to news reports.

Resolute put out a statement today saying its Syama operation, located in southern Mali in the Sikasso Region, continues to operate without interruption.

"At this stage, there has been no impact to the safety of personnel, supply chains or production," it said. "Resolute continues to closely monitor the situation and remains in regular contact with local authorities, security advisors and in‑country teams. The safety and wellbeing of employees and contractors remain the company's highest priority, and established security and travel protocols are in place," the company said.window.addEventListener{if{var e=document.querySelectorAll;forforif{var d=a.data+"px";r.style.height=d}}});Mali unrestIn January, seven mine employees in Mali were taken hostage, before being released, in a suspected jihadi attack on the Morila gold mine. The mine was taken over by the Malian state miner after Australia's Firefinch abandoned operations due to rising costs.  In August last year, a security guard was killed in an attack on the Bougouni lithium mine, while a convoy to Allied Gold's Sadiola mine was hit in May.

 Mali's gold mine supply fell 19% in 2025, amid the dispute with Barrick, and the regime lost millions.
