A former McDonald's chef has shared the secret recipe for the iconic Big Mac sauce, revealing the eight simple ingredients that make this fast food staple so addictive.
After it was invented in 1967 by Jim Delligatti, the Big Mac became one of the most iconic fast food burgers in the world. McDonald's sells an estimated 900 million Big Mac s every year – with happy customers in five continents and more than 100 different countries. Inside a stack of three sesame buns, you'll find two patties, cheese, lettuce, pickles, onions, and a mouthwatering 'special sauce' that keeps people coming back for more.
So what exactly is inside that addictive relish? Mike Haracz, who was a corporate chef at McDonald's until 2019, spilled the recipe details people are desperate to know. Instructing his followers on TikTok, chef Mike pours one cup of mayonnaise into a bowl, followed by a 1/4 cup of sweet pickle relish, two tablespoons of Dusseldorf mustard, and one teaspoon of white wine vinegar. He then adds one and 1/4 teaspoon of paprika, one teaspoon of onion powder, one teaspoon of granulated garlic, and 1/8 teaspoon of white pepper. To get that lovely creamy consistency, 'all you've got to do is mix it all together'. And if you want the most authentic-tasting flavour, Mike urges people to avoid squirting in any tomato sauce. He said: 'As you can see, there's no ketchup in this recipe. The colour you get from Big Mac sauce is just from paprika. You're going to let this sit for half an hour before trying. This is as close as you are going to get.' So there you have it – eight ingredients to make a tasty Big Mac-style sauce at home.
