WhatsApp has updated its messaging feature, replacing the 'Typing' message with bouncing dots. This change has caused frustration among users, leading to negative reactions on social media.
Regular users of WhatsApp may have suddenly noticed a subtle but 'annoying' change when chatting to friends and family. The hugely popular app, which boasts some three billion users, appears to be rolling out an update which has killed off the popular ' Typing ' feature and replaced it with three dots that now bounce around when someone is replying to a text.
Until now, when a message is being bashed into a keyboard the recipient would see the word ' Typing ' appear at the top of the chat but that's no longer the case with those three dots now showing alongside the last message sent. It might seem like a pretty insignificant update but fans of the messaging service clearly aren't happy with many rushing to platforms such as X to vent their frustrations. "Hello @ WhatsApp can we just go back to so and so is typing? This dot dot dot bouncing up and down is getting to be annoying," asked Farah in a post on X. Another user called Miss How exclaimed, "WhatsApp now has the three dots typing thing like iMessage and I Hateeeee it! "User Richy added, "The new Whatsapp typing animation seems purposely designed to give me anxiety." And WhatsApp fan Snehal vented, "What the hell WhatsApp, what are these ellipsis? Bring back the good old 'typing'." It's not clear why WhatsApp has decided to remove the 'typing' message at the top of the app, but the three bouncing dots aren't a new concept. Apple's iMessage has been using these symbols for several years when sending chats to other iPhone users, reports the Mirror. Given the significant backlash against the update, it will be intriguing to see if WhatsApp decides to revert back to the 'typing' message. For now, it seems an increasing number of people are noticing the change and are certainly not pleased about it.
