A large moon sculpture that spans seven metres in diameter has been installed for a temporary exhibit in Nottinghamshire. The exhibition is taking place at Southwell Minster in Southwell, near Newark.
The historic building is more than 1,000 years old and regular hosts events for the community, such as the Gaia Earth installation last year. From Friday, October 11, until Tuesday, October 22, the Museum of the Moon will be taking place at the site. The sculpture features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface and each centimetre of the sculpture represents 5km of the moon's surface. The installation uses a combination of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound composition.
There are a range of general admission tickets available throughout the day and evening, with adult tickets costing from £4 and those under 16 costing from £2. There will also be some more unique activities taking place during the temporary exhibition, including Pilates under the moon on Monday, October 21, and Tuesday, October 22, from 9am to 9.45am.
Other activities include words and music, lunar compline and papagena. Dogs on leads are also welcome for the event.
