A major Bridgerton star has landed an exciting new project away from the Netflix series that will see him taking on a very different role
Luke Thompson ’s next role is thrilling news for film buffs. Bridgerton star Luke Thompson is teaming with Keira Knightley for his next role, but there’s bad news for some fans.
The British actor is best known for his role as Benedict Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series, recently taking the spotlight opposite Yerin Ha as Sophie Baek in the period drama’s fourth season. After taking the lead in the popular Shondaland drama, Thompson is heading to the West End along with Black Doves star Knightley and Stephen Dillane in an adaptation of the acclaimed German film from 2006, The Lives of Others.
Unfortunately, this means fans not based in London could have a long way to travel to witness Thompson’s highly anticipated next performance. Adapted and directed by Robert Icke, the production follows a writer and actress being secretly observed by a Stasi officer in 1984 East Berlin.
Widely considered one of the best films of the 21st century so far, the original won multiple accolades including the Academy Award for Best International Film and the BAFTA for Best Film Not in the English Language. The new play’s producer Sonia Friedman called the original film by director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck “haunting” and “completely masterful”. She added in a statement: “There is no one better than Robert Icke to bring this to life onstage.
He has this rare ability to combine huge ideas with real emotional truth, and I know he and the company will find a way to realise it that feels both unexpected and completely thrilling.
“To have a company led by Keira Knightley, Stephen Dillane and Luke Thompson at the Adelphi Theatre this autumn makes it all the more special. “And in an extraordinary coup, we’re incredibly excited that Max Richter will be composing new music for the production,” Friedman also confirmed. “Max is one of the great composers of our time, and his work has a depth and emotional truth that has the potential to break our hearts.
” Richter most recently composed the score for the award-winning film Hamnet. The Lives of Others should prove to be a must-see for theatregoers if it remains faithful to the beloved original film. One IMDb user declared it “the best film released in years” and “virtually flawless”. This article contains affiliate links, we will receive a commission on any sales we generate from it.
