Market activity lower
Kazatomprom said that its uranium production , on both a 100% and an attributable basis, was higher in the first quarter of 2026 than in the same period in 2025.
This was planned and attributed to the company's production plan and its Subsoil Use Agreements' requirements in 2026 compared to 2025. However, it added that, in the first quarter, sales were lower compared to the same period in 2025, due to the timing and changes in customers' requests for scheduled deliveries.
"The 34% increase in the spot price during the reporting period incentivised the growth of average realised prices by 12% compared to the same period in 2025," the company said. The company's current sales portfolio includes long-term contracts linked to the uranium spot prices.
However, certain deliveries under long-term contracts incorporated a portion of fixed pricing components, including price ceilings negotiated under a different pricing environment, it explained.window.addEventListener{if{var e=document.querySelectorAll;forforif{var d=a.data+"px";r.style.height=d}}});However, in the long term, market activity was lower than in the previous year, with third-party sources reporting transaction volumes of around 15Mlbs of U3O8 in the first quarter of 2026, compared to around 21Mlbs.
"Despite the decrease in transacted volumes, the positive outlook for future contracting incentivised a significant long-term price growth by $11.50/lb U3O8 on an annualised basis, to $91.50/lb U3O8 ," it said. Uranium futures were at $86.6/lb on Thursday.
