A new mod for Baldur's Gate 3 allows players to weaponize the Mind Flayer tadpoles, turning them into a tool for attacking enemies.
Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. The slimy Mind Flayer tadpoles of Baldur’s Gate 3 give you access to some phenomenal powers with some minor, spoiler-y consequences. In a new mod, one fan has twisted the tadpoles’ potential into a new, weaponized force.
Created by modder Siaell, the Baldur’s Gate 3 Illithid Dominion mod allows players to make more use of the tadpoles in new, unique ways. Instead of being a tool to give yourself more powers, you can also weaponise the tadpoles against your foes. “Take control of your transformation, bending the tadpole’s potential to your will,” the mod’s description reads. “No longer just a passive passenger, you now have the means to equip, consume, and harvest the power of the Mind Flayers, shaping your evolution as you see fit.” The mod is a massive expansion of the Baldur’s Gate 3 tadpole mechanic. Alongside the standard gameplay mechanics, you’ll be able to find more, rarer tadpoles to improve your abilities as well as infect NPCs to harvest more powerful versions of the Mind Flayer babies. While complicated, a character that has “embraced their Illithid Potential” can implant a Tadpole of Potential into a list of potential targets once they’re “immobilised in some way”. After that target dies, you can then pick up the tadpole from their brain and consume even more power. While the base version of Baldur’s Gate 3 allows for some fantastic gameplay tweaks, there is a lot of potential to expand upon it.
