A parent recounts a magical experience at Tatton Park's Yuletide event, The Glittering Trail. The immersive trail, featuring illuminated puppets and performers, brought folklore stories to life in a serene winter landscape.
One of my favourite things to do as a parent is read books with my son and for that short time be immersed in a land of adventure away from the daily hustle and bustle of life. So when I embarked on The Glittering Trail at Tatton Park it was like stepping into our own storybook for the whole evening and seeing the creatures in it come to life right before our eyes.
Less than an hour's drive away from Liverpool, the Yuletide event is described as a 'captivating festival-like experience where folklore stories come to life through storytelling and live music, transporting visitors into the heart of Yuletide tales.' The highlight of the event was without a shadow of a doubt The Glittering Trail, where beautifully illuminated puppets and performers interacted with us as we walked through the winding and very serene winter landscape. Around every corner there was another incredibly crafted puppet, with the snorting warthog definitely a favourite of my son's, and the large bird which came squawking over to meet us. There was also a huge planet installation which was dazzling to see and an opportunity for children to play behind a shadow wall, which was a big hit with my son and nephews. One part of the trail which really took my breath away was the opportunity to see the Japanese Gardens after dark, illuminated in such a stunning way and similarly the rainbow bridge which was the perfect opportunity to let the kids run free, much to their delight. However there was one part of the trail that brought me to a halt - the glistening tunnel of lights that I just had to secure a family picture underneath. On top of the light trail families can also enjoy other activities at the event including sitting in on a folklore storytelling, there is also live music, a fire juggling live experience and the opportunity to toast marshmallows around an open fire. A spokesperson for the event: 'The serene glow of the gardens, brought to life with installations and live performance makes for a truly breathtaking experience. With live music and plenty of room for dancing, this is a winter celebration like no other—full of energy, creativity, and the chance to be immersed in folklore brought to life in a truly joyful experience.' The event is produced by Wild Rumpus CIC, known for their magical events such as The Lanterns at Chester Zoo and Just So Festival. The event is suitable for all ages, and free personal assistant tickets are available to ensure everyone can enjoy the event. Tickets are now on sale at www.yuletide.org.uk: Adult tickets are £10 and children are £12. There is also a £1 fee for the marshmallow toasting, per person.
