Two 10-year-old students from St Anthony’s Primary in Rutherglen successfully climbed Tinto Hill during the Easter holidays to raise £530 for their school’s outdoor residential camp fund. The fundraising effort aims to support the P7 class trip planned for winter 2027.

Two Rutherglen schoolkids have scaled Clydesdale’s Tinto Hill as part of a charity climb . Grace Payne and Ruaridh Honeyman made it to the top of the hill during the Easter holidays to kick off a year of fundraising for fellow pupils attending St Anthony’s Primary.

With support from their families, the 10-year-olds set a goal of raising £500 for their school based on Lochaber Drive, reports Lanarkshire Live . However, they managed to raise £530. Burnside’s Grace said: “We came up with this idea because our school organises an outdoor residential camp for primary seven students, and it’s expensive.

“Every P7 class has to fundraise the whole year for it, and our dates have been announced for winter 2027. ” They made the climb with their families on Sunday, April 12. Ruaridh, from Springhall, added: 'Climbing Tinto Hill was hard at times, and it was so windy at the top I could hardly open my eyes.

“I’m glad I did it, though. ' The duo received generous donations from the local communities in Burnside, Springhall and Cathkin, and from family and friends living as far away as the United States and Australia. Grace’s older brother set the pace in 2024 by raising £1200 by climbing Ben Nevis to help other youngsters reach camp. She added: 'We painted Rutherglen 900 Kindness Rocks and left them at the summit of Tinto Hill.

“I made a short video to thank everyone who helped support the kids at St Anthony’s, and posted it to my YouTube Channel. 'Our school motto at St Anthony’s is to work hard and aim high – as high as Tinto Hill! “It was tough at times, but I’m proud we’re working together to take fundraising to new heights at St Anthony’s School. ”
