A £35,000 project has commenced to remove over 200 trees stricken by ash dieback at nature reserves and a community woodland in Clitheroe. The scheme involves felling 165 dead or dangerous trees at Crosshill, 35 at Whalley and one at Salthill. Ash dieback poses a significant threat to trees, potentially leading to collapses or branch shedding in public areas.
Work has started on a £35,000 scheme to remove more than 200 trees stricken by ash dieback at the Crosshill and Salthill Quarry nature reserves in Clitheroe, and the Whalley Moor Community Woodland. Around 165 dead or dangerous trees will be felled at Crosshill, 35 at Whalley and one at Salthill.
The fungal disease leaves Ash trees at risk of collapse or shedding branches in public areas, such as paths and playgrounds. “Works at Salthill are largely complete, with only one tree left to be removed, which will require specialist equipment and sensitive handling of a power cable. Works at Crosshill and Whalley Moor will start this week by specialist tree contractors to minimise the impact on footpaths, biodiversity and infrastructure.
