Bilborough College secured in lockdown after reports of an individual entering the premises from the neighboring Nottingham University Samworth Academy. Police conducted a thorough search and determined the building safe. No weapons were reported.
Bilborough College was placed under lockdown earlier today following reports of an intruder from the neighboring Nottingham University Samworth Academy . Around six police cars were dispatched to the college, which has a student population of 1,900, after reports surfaced that an individual had entered the premises. The lockdown was announced shortly before 12pm today (Tuesday, March 18), prompting all students and staff to secure themselves in their respective classrooms.
Officers from Nottinghamshire Police promptly responded to the scene and conducted a thorough search of the building, ultimately deeming it safe. An email was subsequently sent to parents of the college students, providing them with an update on the situation. The college principal stated: 'As you may be aware from your young person, Bilborough College went into precautionary lockdown for around 40 minutes today. We received a report of an intruder from our colleagues at Nottingham University Samworth Academy just down the hill from Bilborough College and so we triggered our external lockdown procedures immediately as a precaution. Police arrived rapidly on the scene and after a thorough search of the building gave us the all-clear. We must commend students on the way that they went into lockdown processes which are familiar to them thanks to regular and recent drills. Our college is a safe and secure environment and so the lockdown is a highly effective response to such an incident. We are now continuing with the college day while remaining vigilant as always in terms of safety and security.'Nottinghamshire Police confirmed they responded to an incident involving an unauthorized person on the grounds of the college. They emphasized that no knife was observed or reported, and the matter has since been closed.
