The Michelin Guide Ceremony for Great Britain and Ireland made a grand entrance in Glasgow tonight, unveiling the coveted stars and other accolades for the year. This marked the first time the prestigious event graced the city, and fittingly, two of Glasgow 's top restaurants held onto their Michelin stars as the cream of the UK's culinary scene gathered at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum to celebrate the achievements.
While Glasgow didn't secure any new Michelin stars, the city's existing stars shone brightly. Both Cail Bruich, led by renowned Scottish chef Lorna McNee, and UNALOME by Graeme Cheevers, retained their hard-earned accolades. Scotland's two Two-Michelin-Starred restaurants, Restaurant Andrew Fairlie in Gleneagles and the Glenturret Lalique in Perthshire, are located just a stone's throw away from Glasgow. Across the UK and Ireland, a total of 22 new Michelin stars were awarded this year. While only two of these went to Scottish restaurants, both are located in Edinburgh. Stuart Ralston earned his fourth Michelin star for Lyla, and US chef Rodney Wages received his first star for Avery, a restaurant he opened last year after falling in love with Edinburgh during a vacation. The Cellar in Fife, which recently changed ownership following the departure of its previous chef and owner, Billy Boyter, was the only Scottish restaurant to lose its star. Glasgow saw two Bib Gourmand awards bestowed upon its culinary gems. One of these prestigious accolades went to Margo, one of the city's newest arrivals on Miller Street, which has quickly made a name for itself since opening. Following its inclusion in the Michelin guide in January, Margo's impressive culinary offerings earned it this well-deserved recognition. Another Bib Gourmand went to Gaga Malaysian, owned by TV chef and restaurateur Julie Lin, located on Dumbarton Road in Partick. The Michelin Guide inspectors announced in January that both Margo and Fallachan Kitchen were the newest additions to the esteemed guide, a decision hailed as 'only fitting' as Michelin arrived in Glasgow to announce the new MICHELIN Stars, Bib Gourmands, and Green Stars in the 'buzzing city'.
