Marc Skinner has some big selection calls to make ahead of Man United's upcoming Women's Super League ties
Manchester United manager Marc Skinner says he wants to see his players 'trying to get into dictating mode ' in Sunday's Women's Super League clash against West Ham . Player selection will be a welcomed headache for Skinner after several players made themselves unignorable in the Continental Cup win on Thursday night when United thrashed Everton 7-0.
Geyse finally found the back of the net in the English top-flight after Nikita Parris scored a hattrick and Rachel Williams and Hayley Ladd put the game to bed at 5-0. Geyse made it six before Leah Galton smashed the seventh home in the 89th minute. United Boss Marc Skinner spoke highly about super-sub Williams who has always found the back of the net when the Reds needed it most. He said: "We're privileged to have the sort of player that she is and the person she is but I knew what she would bring to our team and how she brings the best out of everyone around her. If there are balls in the box, you better have your best competitor attacking that ball because she will hunt that ball down. She's like a child, you'd love her. She's so fun to be around, she makes football fun." ALSO READ: Tactical tweak is bad news for two Manchester United players as midfield struggle laid bareWhile it wasn't fun to be booted out of the Champions League in October, the Reds have slotted into the League Cup's Group B alongside Manchester City, Leicester, Liverpool and Everton. In a bid to rectify the abrupt end to a European dream and got business underway in sensational style against Everton. Skinner said: "Everton pressed us slightly differently, we adapted, we could find the space in front and behind and we mixed our game up well. We would have created more chances but it's the fluidity. I think we’ve evolved from last season, everybody knew how we played and we tried to get consistency but I feel we’ve now evolved again and I can only see that going in one direction." But all eyes are on the weekend’s tie against West Ham, the Reds remain unbeaten by the Hammers 2019 netting 18 goals in the process in the top tier. Last time out United thrashed West Ham 4-0 in front of 27,000 at the Theatre of Dreams, but Skinner takes no joy from previous results, he said: "They’ve recruited really well considering Rehanne haven't had a lot of time to do that. "I know they won't be happy with the Bristol result but they’ve been playing really well. So I think they’ll be as dangerous as any team we’ve played so far." The weekend's visitors lost 3-2 to newly promoted side Bristol last weekend despite going 1-0 ahead by the half-hour mark. He continued: "They’ll play a certain way, which we will predict and they’ve got really really positive additions. I feel they will be a tough opponent that we have to be concentrating on 100 per cent." United have a five-game unbeaten streak thus far this campaign, which was almost lost against Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend. But Rachel Williams nudged the ball over the line in the 98th minute to pull a point back for the Reds in a 2-2 tie. United in fact have made a habit of pulling a result last minute. Skinner said: "We put ourselves in the position of having to score late in a game. It’s because we conceded and didn't take our chances that we have to score late, it shows a lot of character for our team but trust me I'd prefer not to be in that position. "What I'd like to see against West Ham is us trying to get into dictating mode, keep the ball as much as we possibly can but also mixing our game up. I hope we have to make them concentrate all the way to the end of the game because that’s a hard task in football. "But, West Ham have had a week to prepare for us. because they didn't play mid-week so they’ve had a week to prepare for us." Manchester United welcome West Ham to Leigh Sports Village on Sunday, November 12, kicking off at 12pm midday, available to watch via MUTV or the FA Player.
