Woodplumpton is filled with history and stories everywhere you look
When you walk along the streets of one Lancashire village, you may not realise the rich history that lies within.
In the centre of the village is a church, dating back to 1340, but with some evidence it existed as early as the 11th Century. St Anne's Church is also the home of another historical treasure - a boulder. Not just any boulder though, as folklore states this boulder is used to conceal the remains of a well-known local witch, Meg Shelton. According to some, she was accused of using 'witchcraft' to destroy crops, turn milk sour and transform herself into animals.
Outside the church are the village stocks, with the evidence of the remains of another, meaning Woodplumpton had two in its day. The Wheatsheaf pub is also a slice of local history that still stands, with locals enjoying a drink and bite to eat at this community hub.
