The Kelvin Dock pub, a 177-year-old landmark in Glasgow, is set to be demolished to make way for affordable homes. Despite local interest in preserving parts of the building, a structural engineering report recommended its complete demolition. The Maryhill Housing Association (MHA) acquired the site as part of a regeneration project that aims to create around 460 new homes around the Forth and Clyde Canal.
Demolition work is set to begin this week on the Kelvin Dock pub on Maryhill Road, opposite Maryhill Locks. Maryhill Housing Association says the pub is being removed to make way for affordable homes.
It sustained a fire in 2014. The site was acquired by MHA in June 2024 as part of the Maryhill Transformational Regeneration Area, which promises around 460 new homes around the Forth and Clyde Canal, according to Glasgow City Council.
