I purchased two sirloins for £11.39 and one of Aldi's regular 21-day matured sirloin, priced at £3.69, for a direct comparison. The most striking difference is the price; the 40-day steaks cost twice as much, although they are larger (227g) compared to the regular ones (195g). A simple visual inspection unveils the disparity in quality. The less expensive steaks display prominent marbling of fat throughout the meat, while the 40-day steaks exhibit a significantly leaner profile. The 21-day steak, being chewier and tougher, contrasts sharply with the remarkable tenderness of the newer offering, where the promised buttery flavor truly shines through.Aldi attributes the superior quality to a 'meticulous process' involving 25 days of dry aging and 15 days of wet aging. This extended aging period, they claim, intensifies flavor and yields 'the ultimate taste of luxury when it comes to steak'.
